Who does Bills of Quantities?
A Bill of Quantities is prepared by a Cost Consultant – who is usually a Quantity Surveyor or an Estimator.
They have the necessary skills and experience to be able to put together the necessary documentation for the Bill of Quantities.
The Quantity Surveyor is usually engaged at the Plan/Design Stage which ensures that the Bill of Quantities develops with the Design.
However, the accuracy and usefulness of the Bill of Quantities needs to be based on the final Building Project Contract Documentation. This where the information on the Building Project should be the most accurate and precise.
A Bill of Quantities saves Contractors significant amounts of time and money when they don’t have to do all the measurement of Quantities. This provides a consistent platform for Tenderers to base their price on.
Bills of Quantities are where Quantity Surveyors get their name from. The original type of Work that Quantity Surveyors do, started in working out the Quantities of Items from Drawings and other Documentation that they would ‘Survey’.
